Our assignment is a basic assignment, but enlarged to challenge our mindset to see if we comprehend the idea of "Motion" specifically referring to Issaac Newton's 3 Laws Of Motion. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it; this is the first law, which simplified means that an object that is staying still will remain not moving until something of greater force, which would cause the net force to become unbalanced, comes along and acts on it. The second law states that the relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors (as indicated by their text being displayed in slant bold font); in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector, this sets the base for his equations relating Mass, Acceleration, and Force together. The third law is common sense if you think about the situation. For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction, so take this into perspective... Gravity has a force downward towards the earth, but the earth also has force enough to keep everyone on top of it, which would make that equal right? True, yet almost contradicting. Gravity you can actually feel pull you down, you jump off a bridge you're going to fall, but the ground doesn't actually push you. An object has a flexible amount of force it can apply, like if you can pick up a 100 pound weight, you most likely can pick up a 5 pound one. So it doesn't have a "set" amount of force, and it can actually grow stronger if you build up more mass, hensforth the second law. So you're sitting in a chair, the chair is pushing up on you, and you're pushing down on the chair, unless your "mass" is quite large, you will probably have equal force. But if you do have a large amount of "mass" you will break the chair, this is opposite, where you have more force. The conclusion of the third law is simply every action that we do, whether its standing staring at a corner figuring out the meaning of life, you still are making a force, and a force is still acting on you. For this project I (Dylan) am partnered with Elizabeth whom will write the essay portion of this assignment. The idea is to create a lab that we can use to represent each law.
We're going to Techno Expo! Thank you wonderfull Ms.Kettering for allowing me and Elizabeth to present not just to our fellow students but to our teachers and parents! Wish us luck!
